We are very pleased to report that on 3/24/17 the SF Urban Forestry Council VOTED UNANIMOUSLY to support the nomination to landmark this spectacular tree, "based on the merits of the tree". This follows a unanimous vote of support by the Landmark Tree Committee on October 6, 2016.

Now, we need the support of the District 2 Supervisor Mark Farrell to SPONSOR the tree's nomination for vote by the full Board of Supervisors.

LANDMARK TREE PROGRAM
In 2006, San Francisco had the foresight and wisdom to create a program to "protect its most important trees".
This tree could be considered the "poster child" for the SF Landmark Tree Program.
QUICK FACTS
- On 3/24/17 the SF Urban Forestry Council VOTED UNANIMOUSLY to support the nomination to landmark this Majestic Montclair Redwood.
- On 10/6/16 the Landmark Tree Committee VOTED UNANIMOUSLY to support the nomination to landmark this spectacular tree.
- We've had 6 hearings over that many months
- Located on Russian Hill, midway at the famous crooked portion of Lombard Street on Montclair Terrace
- Planted in 1962 as a memorial to late husband and 2 children, tragically lost in a plane accident
- Has a "sister" tree in Japan planted a couple years after this one
- Tree and owner had a special visit by Chief Miller of the Lacota Tribe in 2013, chanting blessings "to protect this tree always"
- Is full or part-time home to numerous species of birds including: Mourning Dove, American Crow, American Robin, Orange-crowned Warbler, Anna’s Hummingbird , Western Scrub Jay, Hermit Thrush, Dark-eyed Junco, Downy Woodpecker, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Townsend’s Warbler, White-crowned Sparrow, Northern Flicker, Pygmy Nuthatch Yellow-rumped warbler & Lesser Goldfinch
- Opposition claim that tree is a hazard. It has been evaluated by 10 Urban Forestry Council members, one staff member and 2 reports by a Certified Arborist, all demonstrating that the tree is vigorously healthy, just entering its prime and NOT a hazard.
